06.09.11 - Leberkäse. Chicken and Rice with Sweet Thai Sauce.

Published Jun 9, 2011, 9:15am

leberkäse

I'm having such a hard time getting up this early. 5:45 is just TOO early to get up to make it to school. I've been skipping breakfast so I can make my bus to the train station on time. Once I get top the train station, I have to wait 18 minutes for the train to show up. This morning I had a thinly sliced leberkäse sandwich and coffee while I was waiting.

Leberkäse is definitely a German specialty. It's often eaten as a mid-morning snack in Bavaria. It's basically a baked meatloaf made of stripped beef, fatty pork, lard, water, and salt. Translated, leberkäse means liver cheese, but it's not actually made with liver.

The lunch lady at Doemens makes a couple loaves of leberkäse everyday for a mid-morning snack for the regular students.

For lunch today though, she made us a pretty amazing batch of chicken and rice served with gravy. She put out this amazing sweet thai sauce. I could have easily eaten two portions. I also had a Spezi, which is like Coke with a hint of orange. It's actually a lot better than it sounds. For dessert I had a Lion with white chocolate. It's a candy bar that's pretty much like four American candy bars stuck together. It's got a little bit of everything. Like a Kit Kat suck inside a 100 Grand. Very tasty.

Then for dinner I had a Roast Beef bagel sandwich with sun dried tomatoes at Coffee Fellows.
