06.24.11 - Dinner at Chodovar. Meat and some More Meat.

Published Jun 24, 2011, 11:55pm

the beginning of my Czech adventure started HERE
After my tour of Pilsner Urquell, I headed back to Chodovar. They have a couple restaurants there, and I wanted to try both, so I decided to have a couple beers and an appetizer at the more casual spot first.

The service at Chodovar is a LOT friendlier than the rest of the Czech Republic. I asked for a recommendation of a good appetizer, and the woman actually smiled and gave me a couple. I chose the one she said was her favorite, and was a little surprised at the HUGE cutting board she brought back covered in meat and bread. Not complaining, but I'd have to pace myself if I were still going to get dinner at the other restaurant.

I drank two beers, ate all the meat, and went back to my room to lay down for a couple hours, before heading to the other restaurant.

Chodovar's main restaurant is in the side of a hill. You walk in the front door and through this long cave. At the end of the entryway, there is a gift shop, and their "brewing museum." It's guy some pretty cheesy looking statues making beer and one large breasted woman serving beer. The best part was their collection of beer coaster art. I include a few of them in the image gallery (below).

The service was good, and so was the food. Like most Czech food it was really heavy, meaty, and soaked in gravy. I ate every bite of my venison steak, but the mountain of cabbages was too much for me to handle. I made as big a dent as I could before ordering dessert, which pretty much put me into a coma.

my adventure continues HERE at the Barrel Rolling Competition
