06.29.11 - Spaten, Franziskaner, and Lowenbrau Brewery Tour

We toured the Spaten, Franziskaner, and Löwenbräu Brewery today. They are all brewed in the same brewery owned by AB-InBev (aka the Belgian company that also owns Budweiser and most of the breweries on earth). It's really sad actually. One BIG thing I learned by touring around Europe visiting breweries, is that when you sell your family brewery to InBev or SB Miller, your beer quickly becomes shitty.

The few breweries that don't sell out still actually make really decent beer. I guess when the name on the door is your family name, you try not to produce shit and treat your employees like shit.

They had a whole brewhouse there that they don't even use. It just sits empty cause some MBA decided it would be more efficient to lay off all the employees in that brewhouse and overwork the others. They still use the filter in that building though for Franziskaner, so they have to pipe the beer like a quarter mile to the filter and then back a quarter mile.

Anyways... they were very nice to us. Gave us a great tour, and took us to their rad rooftop restaurant and gave us all the beer we wanted and all the pretzels we could eat.

I included a ton of images from their museum. I love all the old artwork from posters and ads. Such great stuff.
