07.22.11 - Lab Skills Review Day at Doemens

Monday and Tuesday we have all our final exams which determine whether or not we become Master Brewers. Monday we have a multiple choice exam followed by an essay. All we've been told about the essay is that it will be one question, and we have 2.5 hours to write our answer. I'm so nervous that my stomach hurts.

Today we had a review for our exams tuesday. Basically we walk into the lab in pairs on Tuesday, and each of us will be told to report to one of two stations. Each oral/practical exam is 15 minutes of fierce grilling by two faculty members. We don't know much of what to expect, but we have been given 20 bacteria, beer spoilers, yeasts, molds, and wild yeasts that we have to know by sight, smell, and plating. We will also have to answer and process questions about all lab practices and when and why they would be used. I'm seriously terrified. This is definitely NOT what I'm good at.

Below are images I took through my microscope today when I plated up all 20 samples during the review, which really wasn't a review at all, we were just given time in the lab to look at stuff on our own.
